A comfortable afternoon tour of Tokyo Bay with Hato Bus

Hato Bus is synonymous with Tokyo tourism.

Their services are also complete with English-language tours that many foreign tourists make use of.

Japan-i checked out the Tokyo Seaside Afternoon tour, where you can cross Tokyo Bay on a Water Bus, have fun in a popular spot like Odaiba, and ride the new and fully-automated Yurikamome transport system.

The Tour Starts (Hamamatsu-cho Bus Terminal)

The afternoon tour started at 1:30 p.m. Many foreign tourists were waiting to depart from Hamamatsu-cho Bus Terminal.

English-language maps were handed out after getting on the bus, and the guide talked about Japan and the day's tour route in English.

Water Bus (Hinode – Daiba)

We took a ride on a boat connecting Hinode Pier with Odaiba. Crossing Tokyo Bay, Odaiba appeared off in the distance.

During the boat ride, the guide came up and explained Odaiba’s history for us.

The name “Odaiba” comes from Shinagawa Daiba, the cannon battery built by the Tokugawa shogunate when it felt threatened by Commodore Perry’s push to open Japan up to foreign trade. So it used to be a significant place politically, too.

Odaiba

Odaiba is now one of Tokyo’s big must-see sightseeing spots.
We couldn’t see everything on the tour, but there are lots of sights like Odaiba Seaside Park, the hot spring theme park and the giant Ferris wheel at the shopping mall.

Yurikamome (Daiba – Telecom Center)

The Yurikamome, a fully automated train operating with no conductors, uses state-of-the-art technology to connect downtown with this seaside urban subcenter.

You can enjoy the scenery of the magnificent Tokyo Bay waterfront from the carriages as they run on tracks built roughly 15 meters above the ground.

National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation

Visitors can get close up to the latest scientific technology at this Japanese science museum.

The main focus is on hands-on exhibits so that everyone from children to adults can have fun. Its highlight is the planetarium with its 5 million shining stars.

The Bus Tour Ends (Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal)

5:30 p.m. The 4 ½-hour tour is over.

Before the tour broke up, people shared information about sightseeing in Tokyo, showed each other pictures they’d taken, and people from different countries shared memories of Japan through the tour.

If you go sightseeing in Tokyo, instead of staring at your guidebook, why not try enjoying some sightseeing by looking at the city streets from the comfort of a window seat on a bus?
